Cultural Entry Rules
These are the official rules, the major change from previous posts being to include a food category instead of writing.

No minimum or maximum number of entries. Cultural scoring will parallel the War Events and will only have 5 event categories, *no written entries. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place in each category will gain 4, 2, and 1 points (respectively). Only your top-scoring item in each category will count toward ranking/points. Flooding is inefficient; don’t do it. The highest total cultural points will determine the Cultural Olympian. The highest combined Cultural and War points will determine the Overall Olympian, who must have at least 1 point in both Cultural and War events.

You may NOT enter any item previously entered in another Olympiad Tournament.
You MAY enter an item previously submitted at the park or kingdom level.
At the conclusion of judging, an announcement will be made for all entrants present on site to retrieve their items.

SIGN IN: 9-11 AM Friday, Oct. 25
BARDIC JUDGING: 10 am to noon Friday for anyone planning to participate in war events. All other bardic entries will be scheduled upon sign-in to be judged throughout the day.

Pre-registration by email is recommended and is required to reserve kitchen space/time on site.
Every entrant will submit a TYPED Registration Sheet with:
persona name
home kingdom and park
list of all items to be entered
category & purpose (aka subcategory) for each item
Example:
Blue Belt -- Garb -- accessory
Silly song -- Bardic -- instrumental
Cerulean Shield -- Construction -- shield

Each item must have a write up. Every write up must be type-written (unless you contact me in advance and make a convincing case for your impeccable penmanship or calligraphy skills and secure my approval.)

WRITE UPS will include:
Category and purpose (i.e. Bardic - dance, Garb - accessory, Construction - armor)
Item name (blue belt, Dimly Dun, stripey sword, lion cloak, etc.)
Materials used
Description of process to make it (techniques, steps, and so on)
*Tell if materials were store bought, handcut, homegrown, hand-dyed, etc
Optional: History of item type, inspiration for creation, familiarity and experience with the process, intended application.

CATEGORIES:

Bardic: Singing, oration, teaching, instrumental performance, dance, or any clever combination thereof.
BARDIC JUDGING: 10am to noon Friday for anyone planning to participate in war events. All other bardic entries will be scheduled (upon sign in) to be judged throughout the day. Additional time will be allotted Friday evening after the war tourney wraps up if needed.

If necessary, recorded performances will be accepted if uploaded to Youtube. Email link to fierymon at gmail dot com by 11:59 PM CST October 20. YouTube has a privacy option to allow only people given the URL to view it, if you choose. Include in the email write up the details of the performance venue and audience (e.g., kingdom quals @ [place] for audience of 20).

Garb: Things for wearing: court garb, fighting garb, accessories, court armor

Construction: This is an active construction category for things meant to be used on the field-- armor, weapons, shields. DO NOT enter weapons that you will need during the War Events.

Food & Beverage: You must provide a COMPLETE ingredients list--no secret seasonings/sauces. There are two kitchens on site. If you need to use one, you must email Fierymon at gmail dot com by 11:59 PM CST October 20 to pre-register your entry and schedule a time slot to reserve a kitchen Friday. Do mention if you plan to participate in War events so I can schedule you a morning slot if needed. Upon registration, we will discuss your estimated prep time frame, and you will be assigned a time to serve your entry during the day.

Art: Everything else that does not fit the above categories, including passive construction, but no written entries. Can include award designs, scrollwork, 2D, 3D, photography, etc.

Edited on 10-10 to extend kitchen space reservations and recorded performance emails through 10-20. At event day sign-in, we will discuss your estimated prep time frame, and you will be assigned a time to serve/perform your entry during the day.

May I assume this pertains to a group bardic entry? Participants will be scored individually during group performances instead of the entry as one. Ties will be permitted for points (for both/all entrants) within each category, but we will determine a run-off policy in the event of a tie for 1st overall.

The scoring will include enough decimal points to make this unlikely, exact judging criteria TBA (likely points out of 10 instead of 5).

Bannerwars 2013 Rules

•All contests will be run V8
•Overall placement in the Bannerwars tournament will be determined by the number of Victory Points accrued by each team.
•The War Olympian will be the competitor with the highest number of points in the Warskill tournament
•The Cultural Olympian will be the competitor with the highest number of points in the Cultural tournament
•Grand Olympiad will be the competitor with the highest combined Warskill and Cultural total. In addition, a competitor is only eligible to be Grand Olympian if they score at least one point in both Warskill and Cultural events. If no player scores at least one point in Warskill and Culturals then there will be no Grand Olympian for 2013.
•Points are awarded based on the placement mechanism for each contest (battlegame, tournament list, etc)
◦1st place in a contest is worth 4 victory points
◦2nd place in a contest is worth 2 victory points
◦3rd place in a contest is worth 1 victory points
•Additional Victory Points may be gained by completing Achievements. Different Achievements have different Victory Point values that add directly to the total of the team completing them and only apply to overall Bannerwars placement.

Olympiad Warskill Tournament

The Olympiad Warksill tournament will consist of the following categories.
•Single Short
•Florentine Short
•Short and Board
•Pole over 6ft
•Target Archery

Placements in lists will award points both towards Olympiad as well as the competitors Bannerwars team Victory Point total. All lists except Target Archery will be seeded, best two out of three, and double elimination.
•1st place is worth 4 Olympiad/Bannerwars points
•2nd place is worth 2 Olympiad/Bannerwars points
•3rd place is worth 1 Olympiad/Bannerwars points

Olympiad Cultural Tournament

The Olympiad Cultural tournament will consist of the following categories.
•Active Construction - Weapons, shields, armor, spellballs, etcetera
•Bardic - In person or via Youtube
•Garb - Court, fighting, belt, pouch, etcetera
•Cooking - Food, beverage, etcetera
•Art - 2D, 3D, etcetera

Placements in lists will award points both towards Olympiad as well as the competitors Bannerwars team Victory Point total. There is no minimum or maximum number of cultural entries. Only the best scoring entry in an event will be eligible for placing.
•1st place is worth 4 Olympiad/Bannerwars points
•2nd place is worth 2 Olympiad/Bannerwars points
•3rd place is worth 1 Olympiad/Bannerwars points

Bannerwars Teams

Each player wishing to participate in Bannerwars must belong to a team. Players without a team will be drafted to existing teams for the duration of the event. The following rules apply to Bannerwars teams.
•A player may only belong to one team
•Players may not switch teams for any reason
•Teams will consist of between 5 and 10 players on the field at a given time
◦Teams may have up to 12 players on their roster
◾Companies and Households may field multiple teams, but each team accrues Victory Points individually.
◦There is no advantage or disadvantage to team size as games are tailored to the numbers of participants involved in a fair and scalable manner.
•Team rosters must be filled out by 10am Saturday
•Teams each need a unique name
•Teams must have a single point of contact for rules issues, clarifications, and questions. Only the designated point of contact will be able to sign up for games, submit questions about game rules, etc.
•Team Rosters
◦Rosters must be no larger than 12 players
◦Each player on a team must be represented on their team's roster at the time it is submitted.
◦Each player on the roster may be signed up with up to two classes they can play in class games.
◾Players may switch between these classes at the start of each game, but may not play a class they were not signed in as.
◾Spell lists must be submitted for each casting class and may only be changed with the permission of the head reeve.

Bannerwars Games

There will be four Battlegames running simultaneously. Two of the games will have separate placings for each side (attackers and defenders can both score rankings), for a total of six scoring slots. Battlegame slots may be attempted in any order. After completing all slots a team may go back and replay any available slot to improve their ranking or unlock additional Achievements. Priority will be given to teams who have not yet participated in a slot.

Each game as a target team size. Those target sizes will be met by combining teams together as necessary to reach the desired total. If there are more players than the target size the teams will have to decide amongst themselves who will be fielded (10 max per team). All teams competing on the same side will receive the same ranking as a result of the game. For instance in a Castle Assault game if there are three teams making up the twenty members of the ‘Attacking Team’ and they capture the castle in ten minutes, then each team would record a castle assault time of 10 minutes and could receive 4 Victory Points if they placed first.

Achievement Victory Points apply only to the Bannerwars Team of the player who completes them. To continue the example from the Castle Assault above, if one member of the attacking team completed an Achievement worth 1 Victory Point then their Bannerwars Team would get that point in addition to the normal points from placing 1st in the Castle Assault game for the attackers for a total of 5 points. Their other game team members on the attacking side would still get the normal 4 Victory Points.

Weapon check and armor rating will start at 10am. The Battlegames will start at 11am, and no new games may start after 4pm. Teams may start whenever they want and rest as much as they want between games. To join a new game, send your team’s designated point of contact to the game organizer tent. Each team can pick either the first available slot or a specific slot. If the specified slot is not available they can reserve the next slot in that game and play the first available slot. The organizer tent will have both a slot leaderboard and an overall leaderboard so teams can track their progress.

Castle Assault / Defense
•Full Class
•Game Teams: 2
•Players
◦Team size for the defenders will target 10
◦Team size for the attackers will target 20
•Lives
◦Defender life pool equal to twice the number of defenders.
◦ Attackers have unlimited lives.
•Respawn
◦Attackers respawn instantly at their rally flag outside the castle.
◦Defenders respawn after a 30 second delay at their rally flag inside the castle.
•Objective
◦The attacking team must plant their flag in the castle in the shortest possible amount of time. The flag is a game item which may only be touched by the attackers.
◾Overall placement will occur for the shortest three times.
◦The defending team must resist the attackers for as long as possible.
◾Overall placement will occur for the longest three defense times.
◦If the attacking team is unable to plant their flag after 20 minutes of play time the defenders win.
◾Ties among defender times will be broken by the number of lives remaining in the pool.
•Refresh: None
•Game Notes:
◦The castle is defended against Insubstantial threats, but the attackers have weakened a section of the defenses. As such, Insubstantial players may cross the walls only in a designated area and only in groups of two or less at a time with a 30 second delay between groups. Insubstantial players otherwise find the walls behave in the same manners they do to other players.
◦The castle blocks line of sight at all points of the walls and gates. There are ‘cracks’ that players may cast through.
◦The castle is full-contact. Players may bring rope ladders, scaling ladders, or their own battering ram. All devices are subject to on-site inspection and approval by the reeves.

Caravan Defense / Raid
•Full Class
•Game Teams: 2
•Players
◦Team size for the Defenders will target 10
◦Team size for the Raiders will target 20
•Lives
◦Defender life pool equal to three times the number of defenders.
◦Raiders have unlimited lives.
•Respawn
◦Raiders respawn in 60 second waves at their rally flag that moves to stay ahead of the caravan.
◦Defenders respawn instantly at their rally flag just behind the caravan.
•Objective
◦The raiding team must stop the caravan at the shortest distance traveled. The Caravan is a game item which may only be moved by the defenders.
◾Overall placement will occur for the shortest three distances.
◦The defending team must move the caravan as far as possible.
◾Overall placement will occur for the longest three distances.
◦If the raiding team is unable to stop the caravan from reaching the finish line the defenders win.
◾Ties among defender distance will be determined by the number of lives left in the defender pool
◦This game will run for 20 minutes, after which the current distance traveled will be recorded as the final distance.
•Refresh: None

Diamond Point Control
•Full Class
•Game Teams: 2
•Players
◦Team size will target 15
•Lives
◦Unlimited lives
•Respawn
◦Players respawn after a 30 second delay at any point they control
•Objective
◦Each team must capture three of the four control points. A control point is captured by a player standing inside the control area and chanting loud enough to be heard 50 feet away: “Dominating one, dominating two, … dominating thirty!”
◾Overall placement will occur for the shortest three capture times.
◾If neither team can control three points by 20 minutes the game ends in a draw and no team will be eligible for overall placement.
•Refresh: None
•Game Notes:
◦The player chanting may fight but must stay in the designated area or the count must restart.
◦Multiple players may be chanting at the same control point at the same time.

Militia Three-Way Capture the Flag
•Militia Rules
•Game Teams: 3
•Players
◦Team size will target 15
•Lives
◦Unlimited lives
•Respawn
◦Players respawn after a 30 second delay at their base.
•Objective
◦Each team must capture the flag and hold it for as long as possible.
◾The flag is a large stationary object. Teams gain control of it by touching it.
◾Teams must hold the flag for at least 10 seconds in order to get credit for accumulating time. Holding the flag for less than ten seconds does not count towards a team’s score.
◾Overall placement will occur for the longest three cumulative flag control times.
◦The game lasts for 15 minutes.
•Refresh: None

Magic Items

Up to two Magic Items may be used by a Bannerwars Team in any full-class game provided the Bannerwars Team has a Magic Ticket available. Teams must also provide a physical representation as per the V8 rulebook for any item they wish to use.

Magic Items must be announced to the reeve of the battlegame prior to the start of the game and the team using it must present their Magic Ticket to the reeve who will collect and destroy it.

Each Bannerwars Team starts off with one Magic Ticket. Additional Magic Tickets may be obtained prior to the start of the games by:
•Performing acts of gallantry, good sportsmanship and heroism in the Olympiad Tournament
◦Reeves are encouraged to hand out Magic Tickets to fighters who show honor in the tournament.
•Acts of despotism, corruption, and wanton cruelty at the behest of the monarch of the Emerald Hills
◦His Rotting Majesty Sir Falamar La Crane of the Emerald Hills will be handing out Magic Tickets to people who show good role-play, garb, and general engagement in the spirit of Amtgard.
•By donating $5 to the Emerald Hills at Gate.

Magic Item ticket are for V8 Trinkets and Talismans only.

However I the Death Knight Corsair King will not only be handing out Magic Item Tickets for those showing me acts of despotism, corruption, and wanton cruelty. But I will also have Relic Tickets to hand out for those who impress me with evil acts. These V8 Relics are choosen by you! And the same rules appy as the other tickets. Show your Relic ticket to the Reeve before the game starts and he will collect and destroy, this allows use for that game only. Other Relic tickets must be obtained to use in further games that day. You must provide the representation of that Relic.

Here is a link to the detailed Olympiad Culturals Scores in spreadsheet form. Only an entrant's top scoring item in each category was eligible for tournament points.
