So, ok...Im currently experimenting with constructing flat blade weapons with kite spar/carbon cores. My reasoning is that a flat blade looks more period and in my opinion is more fun to use. My first weapons had pvc cores and were in the 2-3lb range. My goal is to make a weapon that looks reasonably medieval and still has the weight of a round stick sword. Any comments on the idea?

If you make them safe go for it. personally not used to these uber lights really don't like having a weapon in hand that i cant feel. That is just a personal bias

You may want to try using contact cement and blue camp foam. You can find tutorials for making a decent flat blade on the belegarth.com forums. Just remember to account for amtgard rules for legal weapons like 2.5 inch pommels, 2/3 strike legal, ect.

oh yeah, that's the mainstay of my construction. I have started using a type of adhesive from a company named PL. It is a pure polyurothane cement that I use for my cores...it holds up wonderfully. It comes in a caulk tube and can be found at Lowes.
