Ive read that plasti-dip is ok on NON-striking surfaces of weapons, such as pommels, grips and hilts. What Im wondering is if it is ok to cover the surface of a foam sheild with plasti-dip and then have a cloth cover over that? I was also wondering if it would be acceptable as a tape replacement or additive for the tail fins of a javelin? Any info or examples are welcome, thanx.

Yes. Since the surface of a shield is non-striking, it is ok to plastidip your shield.
I could be wrong but I think plastidip may be a legal cover for shields all it's own. I've seen several pictures of really cool shields. (Hylian Shield from LoZ) I'm not 100% on that so don't think it's instantly true. Do some research.

sheilds - require an opaque durable cover such as cloth since it suggests cloth but does not specify its use, i would think, but confirm with the GMR that plastidip is ok.

That could lead to some REALLY sweet looking shields.

IIRC the COM approved plasti-dip as a shield cover last year.

I can understand plasti-dip not being a legal cover for a weapon, but can you use is as a replacement for tape covering the blade and then put a cloth cover over that?

actual dip or spray on? i played with the spray on it does not seem to add anything but weight. I would say yes on a case by case basis. a heavy coating could result in an old fashion duct tape bat. Weapon Terminology 1. Strike-legal: This refers to a portion of the weapon that will not leave marks, bruises, or broken bones when used to hit your opponent and has at least a 2.5 inch cross section from edge to edge
so if a cloth cover goes over a plasticdipped weapon and its safe i see no reason not to.

Adding Pin holes along the surface of the blade for air to escape when the foam is compressed, seems to help. Even with the cloth cover on. takes some of the stiffness out of the plasti-dip with out taking away the uniform stability of the covering... As long as you dont go over board with the dip or the pin holes.
