I am not fully understanding how the process works or what exactly it does.

It works because of the properties of performance thermoset plastics. What it does is join two cores, or give you a plastic handle for one core. This union between two cores, or handle for a single core can be made to any angle. It can be a lot of work.

The union you require would be custom made for the application. Want to join two CF golfshafts for a light casters staff? Each of the stripped down handles measure .635”. I would get a piece of 1” diameter 9” long polycarbonate, or type 2 PVC rod. Type 2 PVC shouldn't be confused with type 1. Type 2 has a much higher izod impact rating. Type 1 is used for plumbing. Drill a 5/8” (.625) hole 3 1/2” deep into each end, then drill a 1/2”hole connecting them. For maximum strength, try to drill as close to center as you can. File the edge off of the handle side end of each shaft. Heat 4” on one end of the plastic union with a heat gun or boiling water. Drive in the core with a rawhide or rubber mallet. Do the same thing with the other side, only straighten the assembly as it cools.

I really don't mean to sound like an idiot but I would have to see that in person to fully understand it.

I'm a mutant. Raised in a shop. Shop speak is my native language, and I know few others.
