my request for the next bardic is "whiskey in a jar"
a really good cover is done by Metallica if you need lyrics
and i miss Logan doing "Carlton Weaver"
Larin...i think you should pass on the Squire song...Nexus maybe? Also i miss hearing you do "The Irish Rover"
Really miss the Cabalesque songs in bardic....maybe an attempt to cover them? I know Logan does a good "Elenaor Salem"
Zaratool (sp) the bar bar at KP has a good voice as well and would love to hear him perform more.

Larin lost his rights to the squire song when he went off and got himself knighted.
I was hoping to pass it on to my squire, but he has been inactive lately. I will be giving the "rights" to sing it to someone before Clanm this year, just haven't decided who yet.

I do not have the voice for "March of Cambreadth" or I'd do it myself. So I want someone else to sing it. Logan or Larin would be excellent choices.
You can grab the tune for free here, and the lyrics have been printed all over the place, but here's the page whose link I can make work.
Also, anyone who heard me belt out "Smash the Frickin' Fairies" last Midreign, I'd like a yea or nay on future performance.

Lifeblood
(A Viking Drinking Song)
tune/lyrics c. 1993--Karen Unrein Kahan
Drink, for the wind blows cold and
Drink for The Wolf runs free.
Drink to the ships with the sails like wings and
Drink to the storm-tossed seas.
Drink to the lasting nights
and those who warm our beds.
Drink to the mead that warms our hearts
and the cold that clears our head.
Drink to the Allfather's Eye
for Odin's sons are we.
Drink to the World-Tree where he hung
and the Runes of Mystery.
Drink to the truth of steel
and blood that falls like rain.
Drink to Valhalla's golden walls
and to our kinsmen, slain.
Drink to the Glory-field
where a man embraces death, and
thank the gods that we live at all
with our joyous dying breath!
Drink for the wind blows cold and
Drink for the Wolf runs free
Drink to the ships with the sails like wings
for Odin's sons are we!

Bored on the list field.
Once came a warrior,
Fresh from the bar;
Reeling, before his king he came;
When he had risen, he was still drunk
And these words he slurred unto his king:
I was bored on the list field,
I got smashed at the war
And the booze has been flowing all night;
Though some say my wits will grow rusted and dull,
I will drink like a mad dog tonight.
The king's men were pissed off,
They all drew their swords,
Ready to beat up this rude knight,
But the king wouldn't let them, 'cause he was drunk too
And these words he said unto his men:
You were bored on the list field,
You got smashed at the war
And the booze will be flowing all night;
Though some say your wits will grow rusted and dull,
You must party like mad dogs tonight.
The king's men were rallied,
They all drained their cups;
Calling for more, they soon were drunk;
When off in the distance
They heard their ladies' call
And they sang this song as they did flee:
We were bored on the list field,
We got smashed at the war
And the booze has been flowing all night;
Though some say our wits will grow rusted and dull,
We will drink all the Mad Dog tonight.
All through the night, then,
The king's men did drink;
By dawn, they looked distinctly green;
Though their bodies were on the list field,
Their heads were spinning round
And they groaned this song as they did hurl:
We were bored on the list field,
We got smashed at the war
And the booze (it) kept flowing all night;
Though it's true our wits have grown rusted and dull,
We partied like good knights last night.

Do virgins taste better?
A dragon has come to our village today.
We've asked him to leave, but he won't go away.
Now he's talked to our king and they worked out a deal.
No homes will he burn and no crops will he steal.
Now there is but one catch, we dislike it a bunch.
Twice a year he invites him a virgin to lunch.
Well, we've no other choice, so the deal we'll respect.
But we can't help but wonder and pause to reflect.
Chorus
Do virgins taste better than those who are not?
Are they salty, or sweeter, more juicy or what?
Do you savor them slowly? Gulp them down on the spot?
Do virgins taste better than those who are not?
Now we'd like to be shed you, and many have tried.
But no one can get through your thick scaly hide.
We hope that some day, some brave knight will come by.
'Cause we can't wait around 'til you're too fat to fly.
Now you have such good taste in your women for sure,
They always are pretty, they always are pure.
But your notion of dining, it makes us all flinch,
For your favorite entree is barbecued wench.
Chorus
Now we've found a solution, it works out so neat,
If you insist on nothing but virgins to eat.
No more will our number ever grow small,
We'll simply make sure there's no virgins at all!
Chorus

it seems to be not so much what do we (the populace) want to hear. We know all of our favorites and request them every bardic. So the challenge for the entertainers is to find new materials to become new favorites.
Unfortunatly, bardic seems to be dying out again. It seems to be moving to a roving style, or only in specific camps, not at the actual bardic stage. (its a cycle thing, I have no doubt it will move back to the bardic area) same as late night ditching on friday night.

Actually, Bardic has been held at the bardic stage every event. However, some groups have decided to either avoid bardic, or host their own party/bardic at their camp directly competing with bardic and thereby reducing the numbers.
Eventually people will put aside political issues and just enjoy bardic again.

Bardic stage is one location we know a bardic will happen. Consistancy is good. On the other hand... Bards tended to roam historically, and so do bardics. Ice";p="7869 wrote: Does anyone late nite ditch on fri nite anymore?
Kinda? More or less? Like many things, could use some renewed enthusiasm.

The march of Cambreadth would be nice and fairly easy to do with just drums. Maybe a flute would be nice if anyone could find the sheet music for it. It's on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eCrnF844_ww or you can just search for it. the one that I've seen shows the lyrics as well.
