His flesh creaked like aged wood. Standing still for hours had long become a past time of his. Able to commune with his environment had become euphoric. What else could be done to pass the time, especially when one would have another hundred years of life to look forward to.

Gentle breezes caressed his sun soaked shell. A squirrel rushed up a tree only feet away from the motionless statue.

He had managed to see all sorts of fleshy beings transverse these wooded paths. Midnight Sun sat less than a mile away from his preferred vantage point.

The message had been relayed via singing birds, swaying trees, and twinkling stars. The one day when the rift tween the mortal and the nether realm would be at it's thinnest would come to pass.

He could feel the presence of the moving shade that had seen the birth of the hills themselves. The wooden figure could sense the presence of vampiric beings find protective shade in these woods. The forest spoke to him and he listened. He had become the forest warden of sorts.

The small band of humans had begun to gather, receiving instructions from a lone figure whose bright aura easily defined him as a paladin. A true spirit of holy faith. He had seen those shrouded in the darkness and those veiled by their gods light. Too many to name. And only some of them were worthy of their place in this natural order. Many would wage war in the names of their gods for personal gain, and others led quixotic lives hoping for an end to the eternal struggle.

The hunt for forested monsters had begun. A dark presence had recently made its home deep in the woods bordering the small barony. A zombie lord of sorts. The populace had recently come under a sort of plague, but he knew what it was.

Soon, either the village would succumb to this lethal taint or the towns people would cleanse the forest of its uninvited corruption.

The wood elf would wait and watch.
