 Post subject: Possessing the Darkness

Delphos sat back in the quaint village Tavern, outside the lands of the Midnight Sun and enjoyed a small glass of the finest wine which the owner kept under the bar for his more discerning customers.

The long night seemed over.
The Dark Lords had turned many of the "righteous" to their side.
Only the strongest disbelievers had not succumbed to the Ancient Powers.

The "Old Knight" vaguely remembered his own transmutation into the Demon within and the slaughter of innocents which followed. It seemed no more than a distant dream...

He had journeyed to the Great Tanglewood Forest for the Winter Gathering.
His dreams still weighed heavily on his mind and the always present voices would not leave him in peace for a moment.

Though the lessons in the ways of wielding the powers of nature had helped him, Delphos had abandoned his path as a Druid. He could not concentrate and focus his energies with the incessant dialog and the constant struggle going on within his tormented soul.

Each time he would come closer to harnessing the natural energies around him, his battle of will to hold the 'beast' at bay, would slip a bit more and the Demon would climb even nearer to the surface.

More and more, the dark thoughts would overtake his conscience mind and control his physical being. It was during those times that he could feel the rush of power, but he was helpless to stop it. He did not what to Stop it! So when the change finally did happen, the Dark Knight welcomed his even Darker counterpart.

He had taken a small "contract" for a local merchant who had felt slighted by a wealthy patron over a costly transaction. The merchant wanted satisfaction and Delphos couldn't pass up an opportunity for a little "taste" of his old profession... just to take the edge off.

His assignment set, the Knight went into Assassin mode... how long had it been? He missed the chase and could already feel the fear of his prey. He had tracked his intended target to a small encampment just north of the main gathering.

Now all that remained was the timing...
for his client had been very specific about the "circumstances".
As he waited...
crouched and well hidden in a thicket of trees,
remembering the "cold killer" from his youth
and feeling the rush of his heart as his pulse began to race...
he became aware of a tingling in his fingers, then his sight began to blur.

Shaking off the intense sensations...
the Grandmaster Assassin once again tried to concentrate on dispatching his intended target, when waves of nausea began to overtake him.

Delphos fought with all his strength to resist the impending internal battle for control over his earthly body...
The pain...so horrible...
he knew it would rip him apart from the inside...
...suddenly he felt nothing and all was black.

"Darkness" itself spoke aloud...as if for the first time!!

...to be continued
