Forest had his final preparations taken care of when the messenger arrived.

"Your Grace, a message has arrived for you at the Royal Palace. Our informants just sent word" the messenger reported.

"Thank you." Forest replied and paid the messenger a silver coin.

What message could it be? He had too much to do and he journey took him to the north, while the Palace was south. He quickly sought a loyal friend.

"Everlast, I need your help. Ride swiftly to the Royal Palace and get the message sent there for me. I will load the wagon and start north by the main road. Meet up with me as soon as you can. i am counting on you squire."

Everlast shook his head "You know if the message is important enough for them to notify you, they won;t give it to me. I'll start north, you catch up as soon as you can...Sir."

Forest knew he was right. The horse was pushed to its limits to reach the palace before the mid day meal had begun. Upon arriving, Forest handed the reigns to a stable hand and ran to the Palace steps.

"State your purpose!" the guard challenged.

Forest was in a hurry, he had no time for questions. Loathe as he was to do it, he knew this was the fastest way to pass the guards. "Who dares delay Arch-Duke Forest Evergreen, Knight of the Kingdom? Who is it that would question my right to enter the Palace?" Forest bellowed as pressed passed the stunned guards.

He hated throwing out titles, but at times they came in handy. Obviously someone inside had heard him, as a messenger quickly approachesd and handed him a sealed letter.

.........

Forest found the camp late that night. Everlast and Faunna were asleep, and while no guard could be seen, forest knew that Talen was hidden somewhere, watching for any sign of trouble.

"I'm back." Forest reported. "Take your sleep and let me stand watch for a while."

With that, a hint of shadow slid into a nearby tent, and talen soon was asleep.

Forest needed this time to think. He re-read the message. It was almost too easy. Almost as if he had planned it himself. A plan was forming in his head.

When the morning light came, Forest was already awake. He and his companions were mounting up to continue the trek north when forest gave them all a wry look.

"When our dealings with the iron mountains are done, we must return home at the fastest pace. We have an army to gather."

Sutra leaned back in the creaky chair as he sipped on the sweet mead currently available at the quiet tavern.

A lazy bard sang a song about a wonderous knight who had quelled an uprising, an angry mob incensed over the cowardly acts of their king. Of how he kidnapped a neigboring king's bride to be, at their wedding no less. The tale weaves in and out of the adventures of the brave knight who eventually seduces the kidnapped princess and takes her for himself. The story ends with the the princess murdering both the king and knight out of spite for their lack of compassion to her plights for safe passage home. She's never heard of again.

The tired champion tilted his head to the left, the sound of popping startled the young serving girl, new to this part of town, he could tell. Give her another year here and she'd laugh at him for being so stiff when there was no real war to fight in.

She poured and he stared. She left, he blinked.

The bard left for lack of caring patrons as Sutra stood up shuffling towards the door. He noticed the old man was missing, having left him sitting at the central fountain; Sutra could imagine the Baroness sitting in her large armchair bored to tears by Ariels quixotic tales.

Pressing his hand hard against his nose and mouth, Sutra muffled a yawn mixed with a sigh. His heart pounded and his mind raced but he realized there was nothing more he could do. Things had been set in motion almost 6 months ago and the kingdom was slow to react. He shook his head in slight discomfort. What will happen when the day comes and it really matters? Will they be prepared?

Sutra shuttered at the thought of what was to come. What if the tales of this dark son were true? Were the missing innocents really sacrificed to slate the hunger of a demented cult?

He didn't want to think about it. He grew a little light headed. He took a long hard drawl from the wooden mug. Damn this mead is sweet he thought to himself.

Had Sir Forest received the message yet? Would the armies be rallied in time? He had to wait.

Sutra waited.

Forest returned from his journey to unexpected news.

"Sir, a message for you." the messenger reported.

Forest read the message. It was from Queen Clio via the hand of Sutra. The message was grave news indeed. Don Wolverine, Forest's own brother in arms, had been tainted by the demons that had caused such mischief at the Midreign celebration.

How could this happen? A demon prince willing to subjugate himself to another demon? Something had to be done. If this demon had found a way to hold power over Wolverine, it may have reached the other "aquantinces" that Forest sometimes relied on for information.

Forest needed to act quickly. His trip to the Iron Mountains had cost him valuable time. He would need to quickly rally the Kingdom from its blind complacent life and rouse it into a fighting force.

He needed an army anyway, and this was as good of an excuse as any to raise one...

The messages had been sent. Forest was still preparing to rally his troops when the vision hit him. Being a magic caster, he was open to the forces of the earth and that meant, sometimes, having visions beyond the normal world.

The world went black. Flames spewed forth from the earth itself and strange creatures reveled in the heat and danced in joy to the sounds of far of screams. Then, a mighty voice echoed through the night. Two mighty demons clashed and their followers tore at each other in a fury and bloodlust unmatched in the mortal world.

After days..weeks..or was it years? The battle ended. One demon stood victorious, the other lay trappped in his own hell. The victor spoke in a voice unknown, and suddenly, all the demons went under a trance, following their new master.

Forest came out of the vision violently and fell forward, slamming his head against the stone table. Blood gushed forth and pooled up in front of him.

What did it mean? Why had he seen this vision and who had sent it to him? Nothing in the realm of magic was by chance. he had been meant to see this, and to see it now. He had little time to decipher why. He still had an army to gather, and a war to win...

He stood at the crossroads. The royal grounds lay to the south. Sir Forest's homelands to the north. His tired arabian snorted, pawing at the ground. He had grown tired of the bit.

Sutra closed his eyes and tried to concentrate. Where could he be by now?

The sounds of horsemen interupted his thoughts.

'Sutra...we're ready when you are.' the young man announced excitedly.
'Thordor...' Sutra happily spoke. 'Good to see that you've come ready for a fight. You and your men ready?'
The young warrior nodded eagerly, the spark of life burned bright in his eyes. Sutra could almost hear the young man's heart pounding strongly. Perhaps it was his own.

'I need you to take our guest to Sir Forest. I believe he will be of use to the Northen Armies. Only, where could he be?'

Sutra smiled reaching for a coin, twirling it in his right hand. Thordor and his men looked at him with curious interest. The sound of flicked metal and the thud of flesh, Sutra read the coin. Heads.

Sutra pointed down the path. Thordor nooded spurring his horse and half his men. The old figure strode up to Sutra, his voice was laced with wisdom and gratitude. 'Thank you Sutra, for everything. I wish I could have been more persuasive...I only wan...' Sutra shook his head. 'You know as well as I do that all things will be as they are fated. Sir Forest needs your help. He should have everything you need to make that elixi...'

'Ah, yes, Norven's Sight. Indeed. It will be to their advantage.' Ariel turned in his saddle and took one last look back. 'Sutra, if you find my son...can you tell him...that I tried?'

Sutra nods accepting the favor. Ariel rode off with two other escorts catching up with Thordor. They were to find and deliver Ariel the alchemist to Sir Forest.

Standing at the crossroads, Sutra tightend the last girdle on Genesios side, a frustrated snort indicating he knew what was to come. Patting his equine friend on the neck Sutra smiled and lifted himself to the saddle. Thordors party disappeared in dust over the hills and into the forest.

Inhaling deeply Sutra quickly tapped the arabian and they were off. There were still grave matters to attend to.

He stood now in a great clearing just at the end of tanglewood. Men, women and children, all ready to die for malla stood before him.
Nexus crow came before them, beginning to speak.
"We have assembled here today to make a last stand against the corruption of the Emerald Hills. This land has become strewn with filth and injustice. It is time now for us to unleash the beast to cleanse these Hills.", he said, the crowd in silence.
"Be afraid not of the darkness we unleash, for it is only in the darkness that we can notice the light. Now is our hour of retribution. Fear not of death of torture from our enemies, for Samat'a is with you and her son shall forever protect those that fight for him!". Nexus motioned to his right, a tall man standing near him, dressed in demonic warrioir armor.
"Meet your general. Put your trust in him and we may indeed win this war.", nexus said as he walked away from the crowd. Behind him he could hear the army cheering to their general. No doubt he was giving them some rousing speech.
He kept walking until he came upon a large stone wall covered in vines.
"Mhuill", said nexus, as the wall crumbled before him, revealing a small grove that had not been inhabitied in some time.
'It is good to be home" he said , looking down into the stone well that was filled with moonlit water. He put his finger into the water and drew signs into the surface, watching images flash before him in it's reflection. Nexus would wait here until his brethren arrived, they would help him win this War.
