Midnight's Detour

The stars whispered to the moon, of the obscenities they had witnessed in the past days.

He could hear them murmur. It was a sad song almost.

The winds shifted almost too quickly for him to notice.

His prey had mad a swift trip to the south. The northern post had it's torch lit once more.

Sutra opened his eyes. He had grown tired of weaving. Of not being able to settle down in the same place for more than a night.

The lit hearths in the small outlying village, littered the valley floor, mirroring the stars above. The small town had grown quiet after the fierce fight. The fort of Midnight Sun had shifted it's attention to assist the crown in suppressing any further rebellion.

The cicada fluttered angrily in cupped hands. Pressing his lips to his laced thumbs he whispered a name. Closing his eyes, he released the small insect as it momentarily hovered around his head. It circled his twice and speed off towards the small village.

He would wait till morning for word from the baronies regent, Thangorn.

The black sky churned violently under the spiraling citadel. The monument stood defiantly against the fury of the gods. Walls of tainted alabaster ran forever in both directions.

He could feel himself hover over it, immaterial and in essence. The air angrily streamed through him.

4 rivers that had run dry ages ago seemed to pulse with electric life as each river guided a marvelous blaze of black fire towards the stronghold.

Thunder struck but the rains did not come.

Wailing could be heard throughout the lands. The voices formed an ocean of miserable pleas.

Death had come home.

'...SUTRA...'

---------------------

Rising with the morning callings of the hawk, Sutra stirred from his unfruitful slumber.

Splashing water on his dry face, he tried to wake up for the day’s travels.

The royal crown would be celebrating its mid mark in power and they would make the call for the populaces' pilgrimage in order to take part in the festivities.

He was certain with happy tidings would come a darkness he had been sensing in the air the past couple of days.

It had been almost two weeks since the raiders from Finders Keep and the dark ones were obliterated.

He could see the smug look on the unscathed barbarian baron, slurring and slandering the very souls he ordered to fight that day.

The yawn broke his train of thought. A week from now, the crown would be in the kingdoms capital deep in the forests of Tanglewood.

Sutra would be there.

Debts he would collect on were his main priority now. Leaving a dead campfire, he left the outstretch of Midnight Sun and again, made one more journey south.

As I rode south after hearing "word" from Sutra I couldnt help but notice an old campfire to my right. Imediatly thinking of Sutra I shouted to the horse to go fast and I took on down the trail.
