The projected high today is 105, with little wind or clouds. The UV level is rated Extreme. I am calling off regular Amtgard activities today.

So what happens if someone didn't get this post that was not posted until that day? What do you tell the person who sat there all day waiting for someone besides himself to show up?
How do you keep this persons excitement level up when someone who can't handle the heat tells everyone from the chair in front of his keyboard in his AC'd home that the days gathering has been called off?
.

9 people showed up since they don't read the forums. As soon as I get the sign in I will enter it.

I do read the forum. I just don't give two hoots about the weather. I'll fight no matter what.

omg here we go again, one person "canceling" Amtgard because of the weather. Sorry guys, I've seen people fighting in 110 degree heat, rain, snow, ice, extreme cold wind....hum, most of those were at events. I guess that we'll cancel Midreign because it will be close to the hottest part of the summer.

. People are responsible for their own excitement levels. The message was a courtesy. Regardless of whether activities were "cancelled" or not, the Sheriff, Regent, and various other members of the park decided it was too hot to host a regular game day. Aside from the usual risks of overheating and dehydration, I certainly felt it was inappropriate to casually subject a number of infants and toddlers to such conditions. We have been out for some hot, hot days, but there is a line.

shade. fans. extra water. maybe a kiddie pool?
if you're going to run for a summer position in texas you have to be prepared to deal with the heat. just like in winter you have to deal with the cold.
but yes, after visiting ms i understand that half the park populace does consist of babies, toddlers and kids. what if yall switched off weeks of babysitting the kidos at home in the ac?

Or people could get over the fact that one weekend out of the entire hellish summer, most people stayed home.

it isnt the fact that people stayed home, its the fact that you posted here that park was cancelled and people still showed up.

Are you trying to say that we all should have stayed home and NOBODY stated that fact? If I tell people I'm recommending they stay home, and they show up anyway, I can't do much about that. If people show up without checking the boards or calling someone, I can't do much about that, either. If people show up anyway, stick around to spar with the other people and still don't have fun, I really can't do anything about that. Are you saying game days should never be cancelled?

I'm saying game days should never be canceled. Who is the person ultimately in charge of deciding whether a park has a day or not? No one. And it's ridiculous to think that every member of every park should look online or call someone every week before they attend a park day to make sure it's going to be "allowed". Does the city close the park when it's hot? Nope, people still show up. So what's the big deal? If you're too hot to go out, then just stay home and let everyone else do what they want. Simple as that.
