Look... here's how it goes.

A normal sword, light heavy or otherwise deals 1 point of damage.

A damage area (torso, arms, and legs), can sustain one hit before injured.

Armor... even 1 point, increases the durability of multiple damage areas by 100% per each point.

Light weapons while not authentic have minimal impact compared to armor.

The stricter confines of armor construction are due to the massive impact it can have on the game. If you don't mind people wearing cut up trash cans and claiming absurd amounts of armor... maybe you should fight someone in 6pt plate and see how it feels to beat hopelessly on them with your light weapon... because we know you have one too.

i've never gotten the whole "free to play" but if you want to be near as effective as anyone else you have to shell out the duckets for real armor, despite weapons being non-weight acurate or shape for that matter, and shields being so light you can frisbee them 30 yards across the field in a captain america fashion if you wanted to.

tl;dr
this game is full of contradictions and rules enforced by people with personal agendas.
this game is a dog's paradise, it's full of assholes.

Life is full of people with agendas. I bet you have one too.
Life is full of assholes... the last part is pretty self-evident.

Now, you can wear armor... yes it's a bit expensive.
You can play a spell caster... they kinda laugh at armor.
You can also play an archer... they're made to mangle armor.

Pay no attention to the obstacle, simply look at the many paths around it.

yes i do have an agenda. its called becoming a better musician.

i gave up on this game a long time ago. more experienced players are always finding ways to keep newer players from advancing, to make the game fun for only them. there's a few old timers tho that are real awesome and are fucking decent people. but its always the "cool" crown to have a shitty attitude and bring in new rules and find ways to fuck through those rules to further their shitty idea of fun. first edition d-n-d will always be the best, WoW vanilla will always be better than cataclysim, BBSes will always be better than forums, vinyl will always be better than cds and mp3's

and most importantly a "live action roleplay" will always be beter than any idea of a game infiltrated by jocks who couldnt let go of high school and looked to bashing on young'uns to make themselves feel better.

that being said.
its cold outside, get warm: die in a fire.
