I have been wondering what length war poles were used and still be effective?

easiest measurement i can say is stand up straight, raise your main hand as high as you can reach and use that.

I have an idea on what size would be best for me, but I just wanted to see what others have or are still using. I have seen 12' poles. Anyone use a longer one than that?

You have to decide what balance is best for you. A longer pole means you can reach farther, but that it is harder to deal with an opponent who rushes the attack. I like a polearms about 10 1/2 feet long.

I personally use a 9.5 foot pole arm, in this situation forest is right use what you a comfortable with, but id say even if you are comfortable but smacking people in the head frequently that pole arm may not be for you

a stab tip on the butt end can help in certain circumstances.

Mine is about 8.5' and heavy. Works well for me.

I have found schedule 40 1-1/4" PVC to fit my hands really well and allow for little wobble around 8 foot in length.

If it wobbles a little now, it's going to wobble a lot when you're swinging it with strike-legal on the end.

I was talking about with the strike head made, at 9' I get about a 3" inch divergence from true of center if i try to whip it forward then back suddenly, with a red legal strike surface (3' long 4.25"dia) I have a 5" divergence from center with a whip snap. Its more wobble than I like, but for a pole of that length and 3 bucks for the core its good for those with large hands who want pole arms. I can stiffen it up but it adds weight and mass to do so and I'm trying to avoid that.

On a normal strike it flexes enough to disperse the impact nicely but does not become floppy or whip around blocks.

I have found banner poles for marching bands to be a great core, but you spend a lot in comparison when you add in shipping and handling sadly.

The shipping can be brutal. It helps if you pool cash with some people or order some extras and get like 5 or 6 though.

$15/each. I believe they are right at 8ft, but you can sleeve them together with a smaller piece and some high load epoxy if you want something longer.
