The limited amount I spent into researching it shows that pepakura is some technique for making 3d models out of paper. While it has interesting costuming implications I'm dubious that paper would have the kind of material values that would make it useful as a weapon core. Does anyone here have any actual experience with this?

Pepekura invovles taking a paper model and layering the outside of it with plastic, resin, and fiberglass. so for a core you take a paper tube the diameter you want for the inside diameter of your weapon core then paint a layer of epoxy resin over it. then put 3 or 4 layers of fiberglass over that and another layer of resin to seal and sand finish... you might have yourself a cheap, strong, lite fiberglass tube for your weapon core. i plan to give it a try next paycheck and see what kind of stress something like this could hold upto and how it compares to a comercial product. if it works out i will let yall know. if youve already tried it, let me know how it turned out.

I'd appreciate knowing your results when you get them. How well it holds up and how much it costs.
