I put this in its own topic because I have a knack for stirring shit when I get snarky, and I didn't want to pollute the other thread.
Reasons park demotion = good:
1) Easier to qualify. This is the first time in five reigns that I haven't had to pull seven entries out of my butt because nobody else had an interest in running (neither Tolken nor I can abide the idea of a pro-tem Duke or Duchess), and this is the first time in I don't know *how* many years that I'll actually have to pay dues because I'm not in some sort of office. Once the current two get burned out on the whole officer thing, it'll probably fall back to me to take one of the crowns again, and I'm all for less work.
2) The only thing it really affects for us is our ability to hand out awards, and most of the time anything we'd give out awards for, the Kingdom is already going to beat us to it. (I have a few exceptions in my calligraphy bag, but we apparently decided to hand them out a week after the affected individuals decided to stop playing. Go us!)

I can see your point K'tai . Thats one of the reasons The Barony of Tanglewood has stayed a Barony all these yrs. What would really be nice is to see one or more of the parks do this for themselves instead of waiting for the Kingdom to step in.

Eagleshire actually had an Allthing about this 2 weeks ago. We voluntarily are demoting ourselves to barony status. This change will be official at Midreign.

Heh. I'm a copycat.
Midnight Sun has a park Althing for April 1st,
and this will be one of the issues, according to
Faith.

Hopefully MWG will join us and all three parks can make the voluntary change together.

I think it's a good thing for the Kingdom, because it means our geographically close parks have to talk to the Crown in order to give out high level awards. I don't think we've had too many issues with Duchies going wild with the awards, but I don't think we want that problem, either.
While we may play at different parks, I want to belong to a Kingdom that is united both politically and personally. Certainly, no park within driving distance can say it is, or should be, an island.
